Sustainable and Local
At Chucks Wood Ltd, we pride ourselves on our commitment to locally sourced and sustainable wood. The majority of our hardwood comes directly from our own tree surgery operations. We carefully manage trees, removing those that pose a risk or pruning them to maintain the beauty of our landscape. This ensures a continuous supply of high-quality hardwood without resorting to clear felling of woodlands.
The Story of the Tree
We believe in telling the story of each tree. From speaking with the owners (many of whom planted the tree themselves) to climbing and felling, and finally processing the wood into split logs, we're involved every step of the way. This unique approach allows us to ensure the quality and traceability of our firewood.
Naturally Seasoned
Our timber is split and stored in outdoor cages, covered to protect it from the elements. This natural seasoning process takes approximately 18 months, allowing the logs to reach a moisture content of 16-18% using only the wind and sun. This ensures you receive perfectly seasoned firewood that burns clean, efficient and with maximum heat output!
Local Sourcing
On the occasion that we have to buy in timber in order to meet demand, we buy locally, mostly from a charitable trust that manage land in Street for conservation. We visit these woodlands and observe firsthand the selective felling methods used to improve the health of the woodland and remove dangerous trees near footpaths (eg ash dieback).
